Step one is to determine at what time you will be engaged in the babysitting job. Step two is to get a CPR and first aid certification if you do not have them already. The good news about this is that these certifications can be obtained for free from your local Red Cross. Knowing CPR and first aid makes you professional, more marketable and parents know you will be able to handle an emergency should it occur.

You should then look to build on your resume. You can include both previous babysitting jobs and other volunteer work you may have done with kids. It can be either as a Sunday school teacher or the church nursery and it can even be just looking after your younger siblings at home. You should also include in the resume if you have any references from previous babysitting jobs and transportation.

Determining your rates is the last step. To do this you will have to check out your competition in the area and find out what they are getting paid so that you set a reasonable fee. Ensure that you also check out each family's rules and get the emergency contact details plus a back-up from the parents before they leave.
